The growing requirement for performance, productivity and efficiency subject mechanical products and tools to work under extreme environments thus leading to ever-increasing demand for developing new coatings - the opportunity.

However, the consumption of toxic substance, REEs, PGMs and other critical metal elements (CMEs) in most of current coatings has raised great concerns over safety, sustainability and the resilience of EU industry – the challenges. M2DESCO’s solution is a holistic strategy for the development of novel, HEAs-based, green (nontoxic substance) and sustainable (REEs/PGMs free) coatings, which is underpinned by smart modelling-based design for safety and sustainability and enabled by innovative surface technologies.

The following presents scientific/technological methodology for each of the core development themes thatsupport the realisation of the project’s overall concept and achievement of its objectives. The project will allow to evolve fromlower TRLs to higher TRLs towards eventually commercialization and associated timeline.
